OXFORD, Miss. - Louisiana Tech's volleyball team swept two matches today with wins over Jackson State and Lamar at Gillom Sports Center on the second and final day of the Rebel Classic in Oxford.

LA Tech (7-6) recorded its sixth and seventh wins of the season on Saturday with a straight-set win over Jackson State by a score of 3-0 (28-26, 26-24, 25-10) before taking down Lamar, 3-1 (25-23, 28-30, 25-14, 25-20), in the night cap at Ole Miss' home tournament.

"I want to congratulate our players for the team effort they put into the two matches we played today," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "Our players played with much more discipline today and created more chances for our offensive and defensive systems."

The Lady Techsters wrapped up their final tournament of the season as the team will now move into Conference USA play beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday against Southern Miss in the Thomas Assembly Center.

Match 1: LA Tech 3, Jackson State 0

Louisiana Tech bounced back after Friday night's loss to Ole Miss and defeated Jackson State, 3-0 (28-26, 26-24, 25-10) with the help of 47 kills and a .203 attacking percentage in the first match of Day 2 at the Rebel Classic in Oxford.

Louisiana Tech and Jackson State kept it a tight match in the first set with both teams trading points up until the score was knotted at 26-26. Adria Morales then came up with a kill to give the Lady Techsters a set point, followed by an attack error by Jackson State to make it 28-26 and give LA Tech a 1-0 lead. In the set, LA Tech struggled with a .118 attacking percentage, but the Lady Techsters persevered and came out on top, despite Jackson State hitting .214 early on.

The Lady Techsters avoided another slow start in the second set by winning seven of the first eight points for a 7-1 advantage early in the game. Jackson State responded by cutting Tech's lead to two points 14-12 and eventually tying the set at 19-19. The score went back and forth until the two teams were tied at 24-24 and LA Tech's Dalane Guidry and Angela Papach came through with two kills for the Lady Techsters for a 2-0 advantage in the match.

LA Tech elevated its offensive attack in the third with a .621 hitting percentage and 18 kills to close out a straight-set victory over Jackson State by a score of 25-10 in the final game. The Lady Techsters did not make a single attack error in the entire third set, while holding the Tigers to a .074 percentage defensively.

Rebecca Redgen recorded her second-highest kill total of the season with a team-high 16 kills in the match, while the junior also hit .294 with eight digs and a block for a point total of 16.5 in the three set match.

Adria Morales notched her second double-double in as many matches as the junior setter had 12 assists and 10 digs to go along with nine kills and two service aces. Brooke Short also tallied a double-double for the Lady Techsters with 24 assists and 10 digs against Jackson State.

Match 2: LA Tech 3, Lamar 1

Angela Papach totaled a career-high 12 kills to help propel the Lady Techsters to their second win of the day over Lamar, 3-1 (25-23, 28-30, 25-14, 25-20), in LA Tech's final match of the Rebel Classic.

Louisiana Tech hit .268 as a team with 53 kills in the match, while both Papach and Redgen each had 12 kills apiece for the Lady Techsters.

With the first set tied at 23-23, Dalane Guidry came through with a kill to give LA Tech a set point, which Hannah Wright capitalized on with a kill of her own to clinch the set for the Lady Techsters.

Both teams traded points in the second set until the Cardinals punched in the final two points of the set for kills, which tied the match at 1-1. From there, LA Tech ran away with convincing third and fourth sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-20 to notch its fifth win in the last seven matches.

Guidry also had a memorable night for the Lady Techsters with a career-high seven blocks in the win. The junior also totaled seven kills with a .385 hitting percentage for 10.5 points in the match. Brooke Short led the team with 17 assists against the Cardinals, while Alejandra Aviles recorded 23 digs on the night.

With the Rebel Classic being LA Tech's final tournament of the season, the Lady Techsters will now return home to open up Conference USA play as they host Southern Miss at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 in the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston.
