RUSTON - Five different Louisiana Tech players netted goals on Sunday afternoon as the Lady Techsters shutout Jackson State, 7-0, at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

With the win, LA Tech (8-1-1) wrapped up non-conference play with its second consecutive clean sheet of the weekend.

"For a second straight game, we were disciplined and we stuck to our tasks well," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "I think the finishing was slightly down from Friday, but the best thing was getting a lot of minutes to players who needed it. The best fitness is in a game.

"When that final whistle went, we started thinking about North Texas. That could quite possibly be the most difficult game we play all year. We have to start preparing for that. We have a plan and on Tuesday we'll start implementing it."

Last season in Jackson, Mississippi, the Techsters were in a dog fight with JSU (2-5-1) that eventually ended in a scoreless draw.

Today's match did not remain scoreless for too long as Brittany Beddow's corner kick was headed into the left corner by Haley Laque in the fourth minute to quickly make it 1-0 in favor of the home team.

The next goal for Tech came in the 30th minute when Kathryn Sloan received a pass from Kailee Hervey which she boomed from 12 yards out past the keeper from the upper right box.

Hervey was next to find the back of the net for the Techsters with the sequence starting with a long cross from Madison Doll which found a charging Taylor Dennis who crossed it into the box. Hervey finished it into the open net in the 42nd minute, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.

A similar setup gave way to the next goal as Sloan crossed it into the box to a sprinting Donya Salomon-Ali who outran the defender and pushed it into an empty net in the 53rd minute.

Four minutes later, Sloan connected on her seventh goal of the season, this one from an insane angle where she was just a few feet from the goal line inside the box. The sophomore was still able to beat the keeper on the cross inside the far post.

Adding scores in the final 10 minutes of action were Salomon-Ali with her second of the afternoon and Lisanne Kleygrewe.

LA Tech held a 27-6 shot advantage over Jackson State. JSU's Kylie Christian was credited with nine saves.

Kylee Seto and Anna Lensing split halves for the Techsters in goal for the shutout.

LA Tech now heads into Conference USA play with the first matchup coming at North Texas on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
