BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB had three players reach double-digits in kills as the Blazers overpowered Louisiana Tech, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-8), on Sunday afternoon at Bartow Arena in Birmingham.

LA Tech (7-9, 0-3 C-USA) hit just .064 for the match and totaled 26 kills, while UAB (4-12, 1-1 C-USA) had 47 kills as a team and hit a season-high .398 in the win.

UAB started the match strong and only relinquished the lead one time before the Blazers held on to a lead late in the game to take a 1-0 lead over the Lady Techsters with a score of 25-19.

LA Tech began the second set with an early lead, but it was quickly squashed due to several attacking errors to tie it up at 5-5. UAB stretched its lead to five points from there and eventually took a 16-10 lead in the set. The Lady Techsters continued to fight and cut the Blazers lead to 16-14 with four straight points, but UAB regrouped after a timeout and rattled off a string of points to take the second set, 25-18.

Tech's attacking woes continued in the third and final set as the team had a negative hitting percentage by totaling more attack errors than kills. UAB on the other hand stayed the course and never trailing in the third game, hitting .429 with 13 kills and just one error for a dominant 25-8 win in the set.

For the first time this season, Louisiana Tech was held to zero blocks in the match, while UAB totaled six as a team to help clinch its first Conference USA victory.

UAB's Sydney Nelson and Gabby Deshotel had 11 and 10 kills respectively, while Bethanie Thomas had a double-double for the Blazers with 11 kills, 12 digs and a .409 attacking percentage.

Angela Papach had a team-high 6 kills in the match, while Rebecca Redgen, Helena Gunnarsdottir and Dalane Guidry each totaled five kills for LA Tech. Adria Morales had three kills, a team-high 19 assists and eight digs on the day, while Alejandra Aviles recorded 10 digs to lead the Lady Techsters in the match.

LA Tech will resume league play on Friday, Oct. 3 as the Lady Techsters travel to face C-USA member North Texas at 7 p.m. in Denton, Texas.
