RUSTON - Louisiana Tech had its eight-match home winning streak snapped on Sunday evening at the LA Tech Tennis Complex with a 6-1 loss to in-state foe Nicholls State.

LA Tech (0-3) had not lost at home since Feb. 24, 2013 which coincidentally came at the hands of Nicholls (1-1).

"We certainly did not play our best today and Nicholls State just seemed to want it more," head coach Chad Camper said. "They are well coached and have a lot of fight. We have to learn from this loss and move forward.

"It is still early in the season so we can make the adjustments and rededicate ourselves to improving. We look forward to a good week of practice and next weekend's matches."

For a third time this season, the Lady Techsters were put in a 1-0 hole by dropping the doubles point with defeats at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Taly Merker and Manoela Chiacchio at No. 3 had the lone win, 6-3.

The hole got bigger after Marta Sramkova was bested by Klara Skopac, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 in singles.

LA Tech got on the scoreboard at No. 1 though with Alexandra Starkova winning in straight sets over Marie Aubert, 6-4, 6-2, to improve her record to 2-1 on the spring season.

With Nicholls countering with a straight sets win at No. 5, Jazmin Britos was in a battle at No. 2 to try to keep the Techsters hopes alive. After being down 6-2, 5-2, the sophomore stormed back to force a tiebreaker in the second set, but fell 7-1 which clinched the match for the opponent.

LA Tech will look to get its first victory this upcoming weekend when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Florida Gulf Coast and Georgia State starting Friday, Jan. 30.
