LA Tech vs. FGCU box
LA Tech season stats
ATLANTA, Ga. - The match between Louisiana Tech and Florida Gulf Coast came down to the final court and went the way of the Eagles in defeating the Lady Techsters, 4-3, on Friday night in a neutral site game at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
"We played very tough today, but came up just short," head coach Chad Camper said. "FGCU is a good team and losing the doubles point really hurt us. It is a vast improvement from last weekend. We hope to continue this improvement tomorrow in our next match."
As LA Tech (0-4) dropped its fourth straight match to open the spring season, they also dropped the doubles point for the fourth straight time with FGCU winning at No. 1 and No. 3.
The top four singles matches then started on the four courts at the facility and the top of the lineup for LA Tech quickly responded with victories.
Jazmin Britos knotted the match up at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Breana Stampfli. Her doubles partner Alexandra Starkova followed suit with a victory, but needed three sets to do it in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win against Sarah Means at No. 1.
The tide then turned back in favor of FGCU who picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to go back ahead 3-2. Once courts were open, Manoela Chiacchio and Taly Merker began their matches at No. 5 and No 6, respectively.
Chiacchio made quick work of her opponent, Candela Munoz Giron, in straight sets, but the Eagles' Julianna Curtis was able to outlast Merker to clinch it for FGCU, 6-4, 6-3.
LA Tech returns to action tomorrow when they take on No. 67-ranked Georgia State.
