MIAMI ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Louisiana Tech made another late run in the regular season to qualify for the Conference USA Tournament, but had its season come to an end in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 loss to Marshall on Wednesday evening at FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Florida.

No. 7 seed LA Tech (12-8-1) went down 1-0 just 17 minutes into the match, but were able to come up with an equalizer prior to halftime. However, No. 2 Marshall (14-3-3) took advantage of a defensive miscue late in the second half to advance in the tourney.

"We came in as underdogs and the players gave absolutely everything, but the Marshall players were just too physical and too good for us on this day," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We hold our heads up high because we left it all on the field.

"It is a sad way for the seniors to go out, but the result doesn't take away from our appreciation and respect for these amazing players who have given so much to LA Tech soccer. It has been a great season once again and a strong foundation for us to build upon for next season."

The Lady Techsters came out with a five-person back line, allowing the Thundering Herd to have space in the midfield, but collapsing and not allowing gaps once they got into their attacking third.

The formula was working until Sydney Arnold got possession and made a long breakaway down the heart of the midfield. Miscommunication on the back line allowed her to get inside the 18 with possession. Kylee Seto came off her line to try to cut down the angle, but Arnold's shot was finished in the bottom right corner.

It looked as if Marshall was going to go into halftime with a 1-0 advantage, but Annabel Prior came up with an equalizer after she found just enough space in front of her to take a shot from 25 yards out. Lizzie Kish tried to coral the shot, but the ball snuck through her legs and into the net.

It was Prior's first goal of the season and it brought the two teams even at the break.

The Techsters had back-to-back scoring opportunities early in the second half to try to take the lead. Their first corner kick came in the 51st minute and was taken by Prior who found Donya Salomon-Ali but her header went wide right.

One minute later, Mylene Roy-Ouellet sent a cross to the far post that also found Salomon-Ali, but her header went wide again of the post.

Unfortunately, Sydney Arnold struck again in the 73rd minute after a miss clearance gave open space to a Marshall striker who crossed it into the 18. Seto came off her line to grab it, but not before another attempt at a clearing was deflected and went towards the open net and was finished easily by Arnold.

In a last ditch effort to come up with a second equalizer, Kathryn Sloan got a touch on the ball in the 89th minute but the shot attempt leaked wide.

Marshall finished with a 15-5 shot advantage. Seto registered five saves in the loss.
