Nov. 9, 2015 IRVING, Texas - Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after running for a league record six touchdowns in the Bulldogs' 56-13 win over North Texas.
Dixon set a Conference USA record with six rushing touchdowns in Louisiana Tech's 56-13 win over North Texas, the most rushing touchdowns in a single game by any FBS player in the country this year. Dixon's six scores on the ground tied his own school record set his freshman season, his 36 points scored is the most by any player in the FBS this season and came on 22 carries for 195 yards (the most by any C-USA player over the weekend), averaging 8.9 yards per carry in the game. The senior from Strong, Arkansas now is tied for the national lead with Baylor's Corey Coleman scoring 120 total points and an average of 15.0 points scored per game this season, while also tying Alabama's Derrick Henry for the national lead with 17 rushing touchdowns scored this year.
With two regular season games left, Dixon's 81 career overall touchdowns ranks second in NCAA history behind the national record of 83 set by Wisconsin's Montee Ball (2009-12). Saturday's standout performance by Dixon earned him an ESPN Helmet Sticker and marks his fifth career game with four or more touchdowns scored (second this season).
Louisiana Tech fans are guaranteed one more chance to see Dixon and the Bulldogs this season at Joe Aillet Stadium when Louisiana Tech hosts Southern Miss on Nov. 28 in the 47th edition of the Rivalry in Dixie game. The Louisiana Tech Athletic Department launched its Season of Thanks Campaign Monday leading up to that rivalry game with ticket deals and discounts being announced daily. Monday's deal involves reduced $18 tickets in the first 10 rows of Sections C and G of Joe Aillet Stadium for that game.
