OXFORD, Miss. -- Louisiana Tech won its last two games against the SEC, but the Bulldogs could not make it three in a row as they fell to Ole Miss, 99-80, on Tuesday night in the C.M. Tad Smith Coliseum.
Early on it was back and forth between the two playmakers Alex Hamilton and Stefan Moody. Through the first nine minutes, the Bulldog had 12 points and the Rebel had 11.
The offense carried over to the other players for both teams throughout the first 20 minutes of action.
LA Tech (8-2) came out strong on the road by shooting 50 percent from the field in the first half, but that was not as good as Ole Miss' 62 percent, including nine three-pointers, which resulted in a 12-point deficit at intermission.
The Bulldogs got as close as 55-44 early in the second stanza. However, four straight turnovers helped the hot-shooting Rebels go on a 17-1 run to put the game out of reach.
"Ole Miss got off to a really good start, making some really tough shots early," head coach Eric Konkol said. "It deflated us a little bit, but then we came back and made a few runs to get back into the game. I thought we came out with good energy in the second half, but they continued to make shots.
"We have to stay true to our principles and play harder. We want to be a team that plays possession by possession and lets the score take care of itself. It is human nature to get down on yourself when another team is playing so well, but that is something we have to work on because there are wild things that can happen in games when you stick together and get better as the game goes on."
Much like the opponent of the first loss of the season, Ole Miss (8-2) came into the game shooting a measly 28 percent from three-point range.
They ended up shooting 46 percent with a season high in three-pointers (12) led by its leading scorer Stefan Moody who hit four of them from the beyond the arc and ended with 29 points.
The constant makes by Ole Miss ended up being deflating for the Bulldogs who could not match the home team's offense, especially in the second half.
Erik McCree finished with a team-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Alex Hamilton added 16, becoming the 16th Bulldog in program history to reach 1,500 career points.
Next up for LA Tech is a home game against in-state foe Southern on Friday, Dec. 18. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
