LA Tech spring season stats
NATCHITOCHES, La. - It is always a tough battle on the tennis courts between regional rivals Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State.
On Friday afternoon at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex, the Lady Techsters came out on top, 5-2, over the Lady Demons to notch their first win of the spring dual season.
"We had a great win versus a great team," head coach Chad Camper said. "Our doubles was where we need it to be and our singles play met our expectations. There is still a lot of tennis to play this season and we want to continue getting better each match."
Coinciding with LA Tech's (1-5) first team win was the first time they won the doubles point, sweeping all three matches.
After Alexandra Starkova and Jazmin Britos cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, the tandem of Manoela Chiacchio and Taly Merker clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Pulling off the trifecta was the duo of Marta Sramkova and Tarrannum Handa outlasting Tatiana Larina and Aliona Ladutska, 7-5, at No. 1.
NSU (0-3) quickly evened things up in the match with the first win in singles coming at No. 6. The match seesawed again with each team taking another singles point to have the dual match tied at 2-2.
Handa, a freshman from New Delhi, India, pulled out her first singles win of the spring, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 against Barbora Kollarova. Then the clincher came from Sramkova who also picked a good time to notch her first singles victory of the spring, a 7-5, 6-1 win versus Ladutska.
The marathon match came at No. 1 with Starkova and Larina battling it out. Starkova would come out on top in a third set super tiebreaker for the insurance win.
The schedule does not get easier as LA Tech next faces SMU in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
