RUSTON - Between injuries and a flurry of bad weather, the spring season has been a roller coaster for the Louisiana Tech tennis team.

After suffering a 6-1 loss to South Alabama on Friday evening, the Lady Techsters overcame the adversity to rebound with a 4-2 win versus Stephen F. Austin on Sunday in the home finale at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.

USA (13-0) came into the match undefeated and was able to stay that way in picking up the doubles point and getting straight set wins on five courts in singles.

LA Tech (6-8) was then faced with another huge challenge with the top team from the Southland Conference in SFA (10-5). With the conditions surprisingly hot, the Techsters knocked off the Ladyjacks with solid singles performances across the board.

"We really needed this win," head coach Chad Camper said. "The players have been through a lot this year and this was one of our better wins. I have to thank my assistant Vivian ten Dolle. She did an amazing job keeping the women upbeat in hot conditions.

"Manoela Chiacchio came up with a big win on her first match back from injury. She really dug down deep to win as did our other players with the help of our fans who can out to support us in our last home match."

The Techsters found themselves down 1-0 after dropping matches at No. 1 and No. 3 in doubles, the exact same result against the Jaguars two days earlier.

This time, LA Tech rallied to come out on top in critical moments in hard-fought matches. Marta Sramkova, being the lone point winner on Friday, got it started with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3.

That momentum carried over into court No. 2 where Jazmin Britos won 6-4, 6-4 and then on court No. 5 with Taly Merker delivering a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Julia Lorca.

After Stephen F. Austin picked up a point at No. 1 with Malena Gordo defeating Alexandra Starkova in three sets, Chiacchio pulled off the clincher with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win versus Macarena Acosta at No. 6.

It was Chiacchio's first singles match since Feb. 11.

LA Tech returns to the courts on Saturday, April 4 when they take on Middle Tennessee in a neutral match in New Orleans at Tulane University.
