CONWAY, Ark. - Louisiana Tech Volleyball split a pair of matches Friday with a five-set win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and a loss to Central Arkansas at the Farris Center in Conway, Arkansas.
The Lady Techsters began the day by holding off one of the top teams in the Southland in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as LA Tech notched its first five-set win of the 2015 season. Later Friday night, Tech failed to keep up with the host Bears with Central Arkansas coming away with a straight-set victory to end Day 1 of the tournament.
"I am proud of our players and happy for them," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "They put a lot of physical and mental energy in their game today and stayed together until the very end."
LA Tech wraps up play in the UCA Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday with a match against Alabama State.

Central Arkansas 3, LA Tech 0
In the nightcap on Friday, the Lady Techsters struggled to keep up with the host team as Central Arkansas defeated LA Tech, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-20), at Farris Center in Conway.
Helene Gunnarsdóttir led the way for LA Tech with 10 kills, while Marta Monne and Alexa Lister each had eight in the match, but the Bears hit .253 as a team compared to .179 for the Lady Techsters to come out victorious.
After Central Arkansas took the first set, 25-16, LA Tech stayed alive in the second with a .343 hitting percentage in the set, but the Bears came up with crucial points late in the game to edge the Techsters and take a two-set lead.
In the third, both teams competed throughout the set, but it was Central Arkansas that committed fewer errors down the stretch to complete the sweep in the Bears' home tournament.
LA Tech 3, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2
Louisiana Tech spent more than two hours on the court Friday morning with the Lady Techsters coming out on top with a five-set victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the team's opening match of the UCA Volleyball Invitational in Conway, Arkansas.
LA Tech moved to 6-5 on the season after notching a 3-2 (25-20, 14-25, 29-27, 20-25, 19-17) win over the Islanders, who entered the contest with an impressive 10-3 record on the season.
Three different Lady Techsters recorded at least 10 kills in the match, while Marta Monne and Adria Morales each registered a double-double to help lead LA Tech to a victory. Monne led the way for the Techsters with a career-high 23 kills and a .304 attacking mark, while Helena Gunnarsdóttir had 13 kills and Alexa Lister totaled 14 during the morning match. As a team, LA Tech totaled 66 kills and a .215 attacking percentage, while the Lady Techsters also out-blocked the Islanders with 11.0 total stops.
Tech jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tied the match at one set apiece after taking advantage of a negative hitting percentage by the Lady Techsters in the second game. LA Tech raised its level of play once again in the third as both teams traded sets before a back-and-forth fifth set went the distance and then some before the Techsters eventually won, 19-17.
