Box Score Sept. 19, 2015 Final Stats
CONWAY, Ark. - Alabama State had three players record at least 10 kills as the Hornets overpowered the Lady Techsters to defeat Louisiana Tech, 3-1 (21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 17-25), Saturday morning at the UCA Volleyball Invitational.
LA Tech found itself down two sets after struggling with attack errors early in the match, but the Lady Techsters fought back to take the third set, 25-19, and force a fourth. Down 2-1 to Alabama State, LA Tech struggled to keep up with the Hornets, who registered 17 kills and just three errors in the final set to close out the match.
The Lady Techsters hit .130 as a team compared to a .248 attacking mark by Alabama State, while Tech was out-blocked 13 to nine.
LA Tech was led by Angela Papach, who registered 12 kills to go along with a team-high five total blocks, while Helena Gunnarsdottir totaled 11 kills over the course of four sets. Marta Monne also added nine kills and 10 digs for the Lady Techsters.
Junior libero Alejandra Aviles was named to the UCA Invitational All-Tournament Team after totaling 60 digs in three matches with an average of 5.00 digs per set. Aviles also registered 13 assists and four service aces over the weekend.
LA Tech returns home now to host Southern Miss at 6 p.m. Monday at the Thomas Assembly Center in the 2015 Conference USA opener.
