RUSTON, La. - Taking a break from Conference USA play, LA Tech (10-11) took care of Grambling State in straight sets (25-16, 25-8, 25-16) on Wednesday night in the Thomas Assembly Center.
Angela Papach was the lone Lady Techster to record double-digit kills, registering 10. Assisting the LA Tech attack was Brooke Short with 22 assists. Jacie McClure continued to lead the defensive effort with 16 digs. Freshman Jayde Penn also saw significant action registering a .500 attacking percentage with five kills.
"I am happy we were able to win at home again," head coach Adriano de Souza said. "We have nine conference matches ahead of us and I know our team understands how important each of those matches is."
In the first set, the Lady Tigers came out with some energy and LA Tech led by just four, 16-12, but that is when the Lady Techsters kicked it into another gear. Louisiana Tech would win the next six points and go on to take the set 25-16.
Louisiana Tech dominated the second set from start to finish, using a 9-0 run at one point to take the set 25-8.
In the final set, the Lady Techsters would use an 11-0 run to pull ahead from the Lady Tigers for good and win the set and match, 25-16.
LA Tech will return to C-USA play on Friday night, taking on Southern Miss at 7 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
