Oct. 13, 2016 RUSTON, La. - Following a straight-set victory over Grambling State on Wednesday night, the Louisiana Tech volleyball program will be back in action for two Conference USA-matches this weekend.
On Friday, the Lady Techsters will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss at 6 p.m. and return home for a battle with Marshall on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Golden Eagles boast an impressive resume to this point in the season, highlighted by wins over power-five opponents, LSU, Arkansas and Virginia.
Stephany Purdue is averaging nearly four kills a set for Southern Miss, totaling 283 for the season. In 20 games to this point in the season, Sarah Bell has registered 781 assists and Catherine Repsher leads the team with 86 blocks.
The Lady Techsters will counter that with their own attack featuring Angie Papach and Marta Monne. The duo has combined for 457 kills so far this season. Brooke Short reached the 700-assist mark against Grambling on Wednesday; she now has 704 for the season. Defensively, Jacie McClure has stepped into the starting lineup recently and been as reliable as they come; averaging nearly six digs a set as a starter.
On Sunday afternoon, Louisiana Tech will return home where they will meet the Thundering Herd. Marshall's attack is led by Jac'cara Walker and Cassie Weaver who both have over 200 kills the season. Kayla Simmons and Madelyn Cole are both averaging over five assists per set.
