RUSTON, La. - It was a battle on Sunday afternoon in the Thomas Assembly Center, but Marshall would come out on top, defeating Louisiana Tech 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 28-30, 25-20).
In the match, LA Tech had three different Lady Techsters with double-digit kills, led by Angela Papach, who had 15. Madeline Davis and Marta Monne each had 12 kills to follow Papach. Brooke Short had a game-high 47 kills for Louisiana Tech.
In the first set, after trailing for the majority of the set, LA Tech came back to tie the set at 22-22. Despite a .353 attacking percentage from the Lady Techsters in the set, Marshall would edge out Louisiana Tech and win the set 25-23.
In the second set, LA Tech used a furious rally to nearly tie the match. Trailing 24-20, LA Tech would win the next three points to make it 24-23, but Marshall would win the next point and the set 25-23.
LA Tech fought off three separate match points from the Thundering Herd in the third set, forcing the match all the way to 28-28. A kill from Papach and an attacking error from Marshall gave Louisiana Tech the set 30-28.
In the final set, Marshall would use a 6-1 run to take a 16-10 lead in the set. LA Tech could never manage to cut the margin and Marshall would win the set and match, 25-20.
LA Tech will be back in action next weekend with a game at Florida Atlantic on Friday and Florida International on Sunday.
