RUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Six Louisiana Tech seniors were able to smile a little bigger during the post-game ceremony as their junior teammate Haley Laque notched two goals in what ended up being a 2-1 victory over Middle Tennessee on Friday night at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

Just like in the previous match, LA Tech (12-4-1, 4-3 C-USA) got on the board fast within the first five minutes and were able to produce an insurance goal in the second period to bring their league point total to 12 which puts them in a tie for sixth with three games to go.

"The team rose to the occasion of it being senior night and played exceptionally well," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "The team created so many good opportunities to score and defensively stood firm against a very talented Middle Tennessee front line. I am so grateful for everything this group of seniors have given this program."

It was only a little over two minutes into the match when senior Kathryn Sloan did what she does best and that is run down a long ball. The striker got inside position and was taken down in the box. The head referee whistled for a foul, rewarding the Lady Techsters with a penalty kick which Laque put past the opposing keeper.

A similar situation happened just two minutes into the second period when Sloan got taken down again in the box. This time the referee issued a red card to the Blue Raider defender. However, Laque's PK try this time was saved by Sydney Chalcraft.

Laque would get her redemption though in the 68th minute when she found space in heavy traffic inside the 18. After Mylene Roy-Ouellet kept the ball alive and the ball got deflected to Laque, she boomed the ball inside the far post to make it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Techsters.

Despite playing a man down for the majority of the second half, Middle Tennessee (4-11-1, 2-7 C-USA) made it interesting late in the match with a goal from Amber Hoot from the top of the 18 with one minute left.

LA Tech was able to fend off the late rally, getting its fourth victory in league play. Senior Madison Doll had a game-high four shots, two coming on goal, as the team held a 17-9 shot advantage.

Senior Kylee Seto registered the win in net, her eighth of the season, recording five saves along the way.

LA Tech closes out its home schedule on Sunday, Oct. 23 when they battle UAB. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
