RUSTON, La. - On Sunday afternoon in the Thomas Assembly Center, Louisiana Tech handed UTSA (16-6, 7-3 C-USA) just their third conference loss of the season in dominating fashion, defeating the Roadrunners in straight sets.
Louisiana Tech (12-15, 3-8 C-USA) was led by Marta Monne who registered a game-high 13 kills, while also recording 11 digs. Angela Papach also recorded 13 kills in the match. Fourth separate Lady Techsters registered double-digit digs in the match, led by Jacie McClure's 19.
The Lady Techsters wasted no time jumping out on the Roadrunners, using a 10-0 run early in the first set to go ahead 13-4. Louisiana Tech would never relinquish the lead in the set and ultimately won it on a kill by Papach, 25-16.
LA Tech remained aggressive in the second set, jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead. UTSA would rally though as the match stood tied at 25-25. An attacking error by Antonela Jularic and a kill from Nia Myah Johnson gave the Lady Techsters a thrilling 27-25 win in the second set.
The final set proved to be another battle. LA Tech led UTSA 22-16, but the Roadrunners went on a 5-0 run to cut the Lady Techster lead to one at 22-21. The two teams would trade blows but consecutive kills from Hannah Wright pushed LA Tech to a 25-22 win in the set and a 3-0 win in the match.
Coming off of consecutive conference wins, LA Tech will look to carry that momentum into next weekend, travelling to Charlotte for a match on Friday, followed by a match at North Texas on Sunday.
