RUSTON, La. - The Lady Techsters and the Blazer went toe-to-toe in Birmingham on Sunday afternoon, but ultimately UAB came out on top, defeating Louisiana Tech 3-1 (25-17, 27-25, 22-25, 20-25).
Marta Monne led Louisiana Tech, registering a game-high 19 kills in the loss, while Brooke Short helped orchestrate the offensive effort with 37 assists. Jacie McClure led the defensive effort with 26 digs.
UAB took the first set, 25-17 but LA Tech fought back in the second set. Trailing late in the second set, the Lady Techsters rallied to tie the set at 25-25. Unfortunately for Tech, the Blazers would take the next two points to win the set 27-25.
With their backs against the wall, LA Tech pulled ahead late in the third set, to win 25-22. The home team, UAB, would regain control in the final set, winning 25-20 to take the match 3-1.
UAB was led by Erika Zembyla who registered 19 kills and Haley Jared who recorded 14 kills.
Louisiana Tech is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 against Grambling State at 7 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center.
