RUSTON, La. - It was a match in which each point was a battle, but it was the Golden Eagles from Southern Miss who prevailed, taking down the Lady Techsters 3-0 (21-25, 28-30, 27-29) on Thursday night in the Thomas Assembly Center.
In a season full ups and downs, Louisiana Tech saw theirs come to an end, but it wasn't from lack of effort. In two of three sets, the match was forced to go into a tiebreaker.
On senior night with undoubtedly the largest crowd of the season on hand, Angie Papach registered a team-high 12 kills, while junior Marta Monne also registered 12 kills. Lala Aviles also had a game-high 26 digs on her senior night. LA Tech's third senior Hannah Wright, registered 7 kills and an impressive .500 attacking percentage.
The night concluded with most of the energized crowd sticking around to send of the three Lady Techster seniors in Aviles, Papach and Wright.
Southern Miss was led by Kylie Grandy who registered 16 kills in the match and Stephany Purdue who tallied 11.
LA Tech wraps up the season with a 13-17 record, falling just a game short of qualifying for the 2016 Conference USA Tournament in Houston. The Lady Techsters have improved on the previous seasons win total for the fourth consecutive season and will look to carry that momentum into 2017.
