Opening Statement:
"Coach Langley is a great coach. She comes from a winning program in Maryland. She does a great job with her players. They really took away what we wanted, that was our transition offense, Brandi Wingate and Ashley Santos. I thought they took away our first action and sometimes even our second action. When we had to get to our third or fourth action in our offense, we did not execute. A lot of times we have not had to do that. You have to give credit to Rice. Honestly, they deserved this game. On the defensive end for us, we could not really stop them. They got open looks and really, they just missed some open shots. They missed ten free throws. I credit them and I really think this should have been a loss for the Lady Techsters."
On defense:
"I think they were the better transition team. They really pushed it on us, where we did not push. I thought they sprinted back, while we jogged back. Once they got into their motion, they ran the same thing over and over again. They run it very well. They make reads. We tried every defense. We threw out our 2-3, no switching man, switching man and stayed mostly with our switching man. I thought they got very open shots. I thought they got very aggressive and started penetrating and getting open looks. They had three wide open three-pointers in the corner and they only made one. They deserved to make more than one and they deserved this game."
On offense:
"I am proud of Brandi, because she will step up. She will say okay it is my time, I'll step up. That is great, but at the same time it would be nice if she was not disappearing in so many areas for the first three quarters or the first half. She could really dominate a game if she wanted to. She has to learn to go out there and play hard. I have rarely seen Brandi Wingate sucking wind, just dead tired. That is a problem. If she wants to get high awards this year and if we want to stay a top four team and compete for a championship in that tournament, she has to come out every possession trying to do her job and really dominate."
On bench:
"Dawn had to come in and play. Tiara had three fouls. Brandi, Cleaver and Kevione had two fouls. Our hands are tied, even if we had Brooke. It was good to see players playing minutes that normally they don't get. I thought Ruby was the main one that really came in and played hard. She has earned some minutes for this North Texas game and if we have to take a guard out and put her in, that is fine. I am very disappointed in a lot of our other guards. Kierra Anthony, there are times when she looks very nonchalant. It is like there isn't any intensity. Jasmine LeBlanc, half the time she is flying all over the place, the other half she is jogging. Ashley Santos hit some really tough shots in that first half, but I thought her shot selection was not the best and there were times when she was tired on defense and let fatigue get to her. I know Rochelle Vasquez was fighting through some pain. She got hit in the nose and knee. At the end of the day we got the win. I did not think we deserved it, but we pulled it out despite the end of the day."
On winning in conference:
"You have to do more things right than we did tonight to come out with a W. They are at the free throw line and we really missed two box outs. We foul as the kids driving. We said no threes and no fouls and we foul. I thought it was a good call by Coach DeMoss to call the timeout to ice the free throw shooter. We did, because we had two left. There were some things I thought we did the right way, but overall it was pretty poor execution." "There is a bigger picture. This is not Lady Techster basketball. I thought we had a great crowd and maybe it was an exciting game for them, but I would have rather see them watch the basketball we want to play. That is playing hard on both ends of the court."
On Brooke Pumroy
"We really missed our leader tonight. There was not a voice in the huddle. I knew there was a void. Sometimes we did not even huddle at free throws. I am trying to get everyone together. I am trying to get us to execute. We really really really missed Brooke tonight, but her health comes first. We hope she gets better."
