Hammond, La. - The Lady Techsters took control in the first inning and never gave the Lady Lions a chance, defeating Southeastern (12-5), 4-1, on Wednesday night in Hammond.

Louisiana Tech (12-3) couldn't have asked for a better start as lead off hitter, Anna Cross, rocked a home run to straight away center to open the game.

Tori Charters followed and reached on an error by the Lady Lions third baseman Mychal Truxillo and immediately swiped second base. A couple of batters later, Kassie Harris rocked a double to left field to bring home Charters.

Tutsch duplicated with a double to center field and Harris crossed the plate for the Lady Techsters third run of the inning.

"Any time you can get off to an early lead` against a good team, it is an ideal situation," head coach Mark Montgomery said. "I was a little disappointed we could not push another run across until late in the game."

Southeastern grabbed a run back in the bottom of the first as Amber Sather slapped a single back up the middle to score Katie Lacour from third base.

Louisiana Tech got back on the board again in the sixth inning, as Jessica Ball and Taria Page ripped back-to-back doubles down the right field line, the second coming from Page and scoring Ball. Ball's run gave the Lady Techsters a 4-1 lead.

Carolina Sanchez (1-0) came on in relief in the fourth inning and threw three scoreless innings, to pick up a win in her first appearance of the season. Preslee Gallaway entered in the seventh to get the final three outs and pick up her second save of the season.

Louisiana Tech is back in action tomorrow against Southern in Baton Rouge at 12 p.m.
