LA Tech vs. TCU box
LA Tech season stats
FORT WORTH, Texas ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" No. 70 Louisiana Tech hung in with No. 30 TCU, but the Lady Techsters could not pull out the timely points when they needed in what was a 4-0 loss to the Horn Frogs on Tuesday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
It was the sixth straight road match for LA Tech (13-4) and proved to be a mentally and physically challenging game against one of the top teams in the country in TCU (8-2). Ultimately, the Techsters saw their three-match winning streak come to an end.
"It has been an emotion week for us," head coach Chad Camper said. "We really had our chances in doubles which would have been huge in trying to earn the point, but TCU executed well. After dropping doubles, it was hard to hold the lead in singles even though we were hanging in on a lot of courts. Anytime you lose you learn a lot so I am excited to build on this for our upcoming matches."
It was a battle in doubles on all three courts between the two teams. Coming off a win against the 52nd-ranked doubles team, the duo of Zoe Chen and reigning Conference USA Female Athlete of the Week Alexandra Starkova had the task of taking on the 27th-ranked team of Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner. The tandem hung tough on court one, but lost by a score of 6-4.
Meanwhile on court three, the duo of Taly Merker and Manoela Chiacchio were in a tiebreaker and even had two match points but the Horn Frogs won four straight points to take the doubles point. Court two, which was also in a tiebreaker, was stopped due to the point being decided.
In singles, Chiacchio at the No. 6 spot and Marta Sramkova at the No. 3 position were both able to grab the opening set in their matches. Both ended up going into a third set.
TCU was able to clinch the match with straight set victories on courts one, four and five. The other unfinished match was at No. 2 where Jazmin Britos brought the second set to a tiebreaker after dropping the first set 6-0.
LA Tech, who saw their national ranking jump four spots to No. 66 in rankings released by the ITA soon after their match had started, will now have a week's rest before opening a four-game home stand starting on Tuesday, April 5 versus New Orleans. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
