RUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" No. 73 Louisiana Tech lost the doubles point and never could gain the momentum, falling 4-2 to New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.

It marked the first home loss of the season for LA Tech (13-5), ending what was a six-match winning streak on its home courts.

"UNO was successful in staying on top throughout the match today," head coach Chad Camper said. "They took advantages when we were down and they deserve a lot of credit. We need to learn from this match and get back rolling again tomorrow. We all lose, but it is what you do about it after that counts."

The Lady Techsters struggled to find energy on what was a hot spring day in Ruston. New Orleans (12-5) on the other hand came out red hot and quickly captured the doubles points on courts one and three.

After not playing doubles, Alba Escalona Perny was dominant in her singles match by downing Brittany Johnson 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 position.

Senior Alexandra Starkova then gave the Techsters a 2-1 edge in the match after clinching her team-leading 11th win of the season by a score of 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot over Soledad Calderon.

However, LA Tech was struggling on the other four courts and UNO started striking back one point at a time. The Privateers won in straight sets on courts two and six to capture the lead back.

The remaining two matches each went to a third set. Marta Sramkova was up 3-2 in the third and looked poised to pull off the comeback, but the Privateers clinched it at No. 4.

LA Tech will look to regroup as it takes on Tyler Junior College on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex. It will be an exhibition match between the Techsters, who are nationally ranked for a third consecutive week, and the Apache, who are currently ranked No. 2 in the country among junior colleges.
