LA Tech Opens Competition at Texas Relays Thursday

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech will compete among the nation's best in one of the country's largest track and field meets when select student-athletes head to the 89th Annual Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas beginning Thursday.

Overall Louisiana Tech has eight qualifying entries in a meet that is hosting more than 7,500 athletes over four days. This year's meet features dozens of NCAA contenders as well as many Olympic hopefuls and a world record holder. The meet will be televised on the Longhorn Network.

While the meet begins with the heptathlon and decathlon on Wednesday, Louisiana Tech's participation begins Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT with the 400m hurdles. Brandi Dobbin and Daphney Campbell will represent the Lady Techsters in the prelims races in hopes of advancing to Friday's finals. Dobbin enters the week ranked seventh in Conference USA with a season-best time of 1:02.88 while Campbell ranks eighth after running 1:03.04 at the Jim Mize Invitational.

Tramaine Maloney and Janiel McDonald start the action Friday at 9:35 a.m. in the hurdles. The high hurdles races, which will be run simultaneously on the east and west straightaways, has McDaniel leading LA Tech with a season-best time of 13.80 ranking third in C-USA set at the Bobby Lane Invitational last Saturday. Meanwhile Maloney, a transfer from Texas Tech, ranks 14th nationally with a season-best time of 13.94.

Later in the morning session the women's 4x400m relay will compete, entering the race ranked fourth in the conference.

Chloe Lautric starts Louisiana Tech's field action with the women's high jump at 10 a.m. on Friday. She enters the week ranked second in Conference USA with a height of 5-8.75 (1.75m) set on her home track at the Jim Mize Invitational.

Action resumes for Louisiana Tech at 3 p.m. Saturday when Mia Adams and Denisha Henix compete in the long jump. Adams brings a Conference USA-leading jump of 20-7 (6.27m) ranks fourth in the nation. Henix jumped 19-0.5 (5.80m) at the Jim Mize Invitational and ranks sixth in C-USA.
