HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Louisiana Tech tennis team picked up five singles victories to help pick up victory No. 10 on the spring season with a 5-2 road win over Southern Miss at the USM Tennis Complex.

For only the second time this season, LA Tech (10-2, 1-1 C-USA) dropped the doubles point, but for the first time this season the team was able to make the comeback after going down 1-0.

"I am very proud of this team," head coach Chad Camper said. "They came together as a family and cheered for one another as if it was the only thing that mattered. We battled and with that we grew a lot as a team. Zoe was amazing in singles, Manoela showed her leadership getting that third point for us and Marta and Alba came through to finish it out."

The duo of Jazmin Britos and Marta Sramkova picked up the first win of the day, dominating on court two with a 6-1 victory. However, Southern Miss (8-2, 0-1 C-USA) countered with 6-3 wins on court one and three to grab the opening point of the match.

The Lady Techsters quickly tied the match up at 1-1 when freshman Zoe Chen dominated Tjasa Jerse, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4, but the Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead after that with a straight sets win at No. 2.

The remaining four singles matches would all end up going to a third set with LA Tech coming out on top in all four starting with 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win by Manoela Chiacchio at the No. 6 position.

Alexandra Starkova followed by coming back from down a set to defeating Carolin Drescher, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.

With the Techsters holding a 3-2 edge, the match came down to courts three and five and both Marta Sramkova and Alba Escalona Perny pulled off late rallies and finished at the same time with wins of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, respectively.

LA Tech returns to action on Tuesday, March 8 when they travel to face nationally-ranked South Alabama. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
