May 27, 2016 IRVING, Texas - Louisiana Tech distance runner Tom Stringer was named to the Conference USA Track and Field All-Academic Team the league announced Friday.
A redshirt junior from New Zealand, Stringer set new personal bests in all three distance races he competed in this year while maintaining a 3.95 cumulative grade point average. His academic accomplishments resulted in the finance major receiving his Bachelor's degree this past spring quarter.
Stringer's outdoor season started off on the right foot as he won the 3,000m run at the Louisiana Tech-hosted Jim Mize Invitational with a personal best time of 8:49.4. That came after he ran on the distance medley relay that scored points at the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
Also during the outdoor season Stringer registered a fourth-place finish in the 1,500m at the LSU Alumni Gold, clocking 3:58.68 then followed that performance up a week later by running a personal best 3:57.47 at the Mississippi State-hosted Jace LaCoste Invitational.
Stringer also posted a new career-best time in the 800m this season as he clocked 1:57.86 at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational hosted by Northwestern State.
