LA Tech vs. McNeese box
LA Tech season stats
RUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Louisiana Tech senior Kathryn Sloan gave the Lady Techsters the advantage early in the second half, but McNeese State was able to rally for two goals to pull out the 2-1 decision on a hot and humid Wednesday night at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
There was very little play in the box during the first 45 minutes with a combined six shots between the two teams.
Sloan did what she does best and that is score, giving LA Tech (1-1) a 1-0 edge in the 51st minute after a strong turn in the box gave her separation and a clear shot which she buried into the upper left corner.
It was career goal No. 28 for the senior who is closing in the career points and goals record.
McNeese State (1-0) did not panic though in what was its season opener. The Cowgirls delivered the equalizer in the 61st minute on a goal by Bettina Brulhart and another in the 84th minute by Nola Prickett, both goals coming on defensive breakdowns.
Sloan tried to pull off some more of her scoring magic in the final five minutes to try to send the match into overtime. She had two shots from 15 feet out, but one leaked to the left and the other grazed the outside of the far post.
LA Tech held an 11-6 shot advantage in the match, but only two of those shots were on goal. Goalkeeper Kylee Seto was credited with two saves.
The team has a quick turnaround with the next game coming at home on Friday night at 7 p.m. versus Mississippi Valley State.
