MEMPHIS, Tenn. - On the final day of the Tiger Invitational, Louisiana Tech missed an opportunity to sweep the weekend slate, dropping the finale to Memphis 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Louisiana Tech was led by Marta Monne who recorded a team-high 19 kills on her way to being named to the all-tournament team. Brooke Short, who was also named to the all-tournament team, also helped lead the offensive attack with 41 assists. Angie Papach also recorded double-digit kills with 14.
In the four set match, Louisiana Tech gave Memphis everything they could handle and then some. In the first set, Memphis was serving for set point with 24-18 lead, but an incredible rally followed and the Lady Techsters won the next six points. Unfortunately with the game knotted at 24, Memphis would win the following two points and take the first set.
LA Tech would fight back to take the second set however, 26-24. Once again Memphis held a large lead late in the set, up 20-16. The Lady Techsters fought back once again, eventually tying the game at 24-24. Back-to-back kills from Alexa Lister and Monne would give Tech the set.
In the final two sets, Memphis jumped out to early leads and while the Lady Techsters could cut the deficit and even tie it, they could never get over the hump to take the lead. Memphis would win the final two sets 25-22 and 25-19.
