Nov. 15, 2017 IRVING, Texas - For the first time since 2014, the Louisiana Tech volleyball program saw a student-athlete earn All-Conference USA postseason accolades, as senior Marta Monne was named Second Team All-Conference USA following a vote by the league's 13 head coaches.
After becoming the first Lady Techster to receive First Team All-Louisiana accolades last season, Monne joins Rebecca Redgen (Second Team All-C-USA, 2014) as the only two players to earn All-Conference USA recognition in the program's history.
"This is a great accomplishment for Marta and it's also a special personal achievement after going through such adversity early on in her career, head coach Adriano de Souza noted. "Marta has been able to produce numbers that very few have been able to match in our program's history. We are very happy for her being recognized by the coaches and earning this award."
The versatile outside hitter played in 98 sets this season, while accumulating a team-high 320 kills and averaging 3.27 kills per set. She also came close to recording her second straight 300+ kill-300+ dig season as she tallied 282 digs on the year.
Monne registered a team-best 13 double-doubles in 2017, after also leading least year's team with the same amount.
Her senior campaign was highlighted by arguably her most dominant match as a Techster in a five-set fight against FIU on October 22. In the match, Monne posted a career-high 25 kills along with 19 digs, while hitting .288.
Then, just five days later, the Milan, Italy, native led Tech to its second league triumph of the season as she struck for 22 kills while hitting at a season-best .425 on the road against UTEP.
After a serious knee injury forced her to redshirt her freshman season in 2013, she returned to the court in 2014 and improved her kill totals in each of her next four seasons as a Techster. For her career, she finished with 975 total kills (2.56 kills per set) and 921 total digs (2.42 digs per set).
"Marta is a very efficient volleyball player and has been a leader for our team on and off the court," de Souza added. "She has been a great example of a six-rotation player who brings high numbers in attacking, serve-receive and defense for our program throughout her career."
An ever-consistent force on the outside, Monne averaged more than 3.00 kills per set in each of her final three seasons while wearing the red and blue.
