RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech volleyball team battled, but fell to the North Texas Mean Green, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) on Sunday afternoon from the Thomas Assembly Center.
In its final home match of the 2017 season, Tech (7-20, 2-11 C-USA) celebrated the careers of seniors Nia Myah Johnson, Jacie McClure, Marta Monne and Brooke Short.
Each one of the four played a crucial role in keeping the Lady Techsters within striking distance for the entirety of the match.
Monne paced the squad with her team-leading 13th double-double of the season (12 kills and 15 digs). Short dished out 34 helpers, while also notching five digs. McClure posted nine digs of her own, while Johnson came off the bench with four kills in the third and final set.
Tech freshman Emily Boylan stepped into a starting role and performed admirably, posting a new career high with eight kills on 16 attacks.
North Texas (24-2, 11-1 C-USA) was led by the duo of Amanda Chamberlain and Barbara Teakell, who combined for 30 kills on the afternoon.
The Mean Green hit .297 as a team, while holding Tech to a .200 mark for the match.
The Lady Techsters will wrap up the 2017 season on Thursday against Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The match is set for a 6 p.m. first serve.
