LA Tech season stats
COLUMBIA, Mo. ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis team went toe-to-toe with 31st-ranked Missouri, but the Lady Techsters ended up falling by a score of 5-2 to the Tigers on Saturday afternoon at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Cold temperatures sent the road match indoors where LA Tech (6-5) narrowly lost the doubles point to Missouri (9-2) and took three singles matches into a third set, coming away with two victories.
MU got the first win of the day from the No. 3 position in doubles. The other two courts were neck-and-neck, but the Tigers were able to squeak out wins of 7-6 and 6-4 on courts one and two, respectively.
With only four indoor courts, the top four spots in singles started first. The Tigers were able to push their team lead to 3-0 with straight-set victories on courts two and four.
However, the Lady Techsters continued to fight on the other two. Freshman Nadja Manjon got off to a strong start, winning the first set 6-0 at the No. 3 position, but Cassidy Spearman forced a deciding third set and won it 7-5.
At No. 1 it was the opposite. Senior Jazmin Britos lost the first set 6-0, but bounced back in a big way to take down Brianna Lashway by a final score of 0-6, 6-2, 7-6.
The other point for LA Tech came from junior Alba Escalona Perny who defeated Clare Raley, 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 on court six, extending her singles winning streak to five.
Next up for LA Tech is a trip to Springfield, Missouri to take on Central Arkansas in a neutral site match on Sunday. First serve is set for 5 p.m. at the Copper Tennis Complex.
