LA Tech season stats
RUSTON ââ'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis team remained undefeated at home this season with a 6-1 win over Stephen F. Austin on an overcast Wednesday afternoon at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
With rain threatening, LA Tech (11-8) pulled out the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. They followed that up with five singles wins to improve to 4-0 at home.
"I'm really proud of our girls in every line today," head coach Amanda Stone said. "Ideally, we could have done some things better, but what was important today was we kept our confidence and battled through the tight parts of the matches. We have good momentum right now going into our tough matches this weekend."
The duo of senior Marta Sramkova and freshman Nadja Manjon remained hot, winning their fifth straight in doubles on court three by a score of 6-0 to get the Lady Techsters off to a good start.
After SFA (7-9) was able to pick up a 7-5 win on court one, the doubles point came down to court two where sophomore Sonia Chen and freshman Jill van den Dungen broke serve to pull out a 7-5 victory.
Senior Jazmin Britos gave LA Tech a 2-0 advantage when she came back from being down 3-0 to Denise Maxl to winning 12 of the next 14 games for a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot. It marked her team-leading 12th singles win of the spring and the 49th of her career.
The lead went to 3-0 at the No. 3 position where Chen battled back from dropping the first set to dominating sets two and three over Gabi Guilarte 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. She pushed her singles winning streak to five and went to 6-0 on the dual season playing on court three.
The clincher then came from Manjon at No. 2, winning the first set in a tiebreaker and then winning four straight games in the second set to take the match versus Darinka Tiboldi by a final score of 7-6, 7-5.
The next match that ended came on court six where the Lady Jacks picked up their lone point which came in three sets.
Seconds later, Sramkova outlasted Sian Payne at No. 5 with a 6-3, 7-6 victory for her fifth straight singles win. The last match on court four played through light rain at the end with Perny closing it out over Liza Aginskaya in a 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 win.
LA Tech returns to action this weekend when they travel to New Orleans to face Tulane on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee on Sunday at 2 p.m.
