March 7, 2017 RUSTON -- The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced on Tuesday that Louisiana Tech's Erik McCree has been selected to the USBWA All-District VII Team, as voted on by its members.
McCree joins Alex Hamilton (2015-16) and Paul Millsap (2005-06) as recent Bulldogs to earn All-District honors. He was the only player from Conference USA and the only player from the state of Louisiana selected this season.
District VII is made up of all Division I college basketball programs from Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
The senior has been the anchor for LA Tech who came into the year as the second youngest team in the league and picked to finish seventh in the preseason, but ultimately put together a 22-9 overall mark in the regular season and 14 conference wins for a second place finish in the standings.
He led the Bulldogs in scoring (17.7) and rebounding (8.7) this season, both stats ranking in the top six in C-USA. He also posted 12 double-doubles this season, the second most in the league and the sixth most in the last 25 years at LA Tech.
McCree is currently one of only four forwards in Division I basketball to have at least 185 made field goals, 50 made three-pointers and 110 made free throws.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. Today, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball.
The Bulldogs are set to face either the UAB Blazers or the Charlotte 49ers on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. inside Legacy Arena (BJCC) in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament.
