LA Tech Golf Finishes Second at Southern Collegiate Match Play

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Louisiana Tech Golf made it to the finals of the Southern Collegiate Match Play on Saturday before the Bulldogs fell short against South Alabama at the Hattiesburg Country Club.

Louisiana Tech began the day by defeating Conference USA foe Southern Miss, 4-1, in the semifinals to advance and play South Alabama, who topped UL-Lafayette, 4-1, as well. In the championship, South Alabama completed the come-from-behind victory and took the match, 3-2, over LA Tech.

In the semifinals, Louisiana Tech's John Lewis Sams defeated Ryan Argotsinger 1 up over the course of 21 holes, while Joacim Ahlund won 1 up and Hunter Glenn clinched a third point by defeating Derick Kelting 2 up. Karsten Green won the final point in the match, 5&3, over Southern Miss' Walker Kesterson.

After advancing to the championship match versus South Alabama, Louisiana Tech started strong with a win by Ahlund over Brooks Rabren, 6&5. South Alabama then evened the match at 1-1 with a win over Karsten Green, 6&5. Felix Palson followed up by giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead in the match after defeating Drew Cooke, 3&1, but South Alabama's Rasmus Karlsson and Peter Staalbo clinched the match, 3-2, with wins over Hunter Glenn and John Lewis Sams.

The Southern Collegiate Match Play wraps up the regular season for the Bulldogs as LA Tech will now prepare for next week's Conference USA Championship April 23-26 in Texarkana, Arkansas.
