RUSTON, La. - After polishing off an impressive 2-1 weekend at the Lady Techster Invitational, the LA Tech women's volleyball team will travel to Jackson State on Tuesday to take on the Lady Tigers at 6:30 p.m.

Game Notes

Tech (3-6), who will be making its third trip to the state of Mississippi this season, will look to continue its winning ways in Jackson. All-time, the Techsters own a 9-1 series lead over the Lady Tigers (1-9) and have currently won five straight matchups. Most recently, Tech earned a 3-0 sweep in the second contest between the schools last season.

The Techsters have found their calling card defensively this season, ranking in the top half of Conference USA teams in opponent hitting percentage (.183 - fifth) and blocks per set (2.14 - sixth). Their 75.0 total blocks this season rank among the top-100 among national leaders (93rd) and are eighth most in the league.

The Lady Tigers are 1-9 this season, having dropped their last seven matches. Their only win of the season came against Nicholls State in the second match of the season.

Offensively, Camry Dabney paces Jackson State with 89 kills (2.62 per set) while Alexandra Burney and Tielar Richards have chipped in 64 and 55 kills, respectively. Defensively, junior libero Tyler Moorer ranks fifth among SWAC leaders in digs per set, averaging 3.10 per set.

Sophomore Madeline Davis has burst onto the scene as one of Tech's top defensive assets this season. The middle blocker has registered three or more blocks in seven of Tech's nine contests and leads the squad with 40 total blocks. She ranks seventh among conference leaders with her 40 total blocks and 71st nationally. Her skillset is not strictly limited to defense however, as Davis has recorded six or more kills in six contests this season. In the Lady Techster Invitational, Davis averaged 2.20 kills per set while hitting the highest percentage of all qualifiers (.404).

Prior to the 2017 season, expectations were high for Marta Monne to lead the squad in most all offensive catagories. However, as impressive as Monne has been (her 79 kills and 101 digs are both second-best on the team), newcomer Gina Cortesi has taken the reigns as Tech's primary offensive threat this season. The Torrance, California, native was the first to 100 kills among the team this season, and leads the squad with 2.89 kills per set.

A big milestone appears to be attainable this week for Tech senior Brooke Short. The setter currently sits at 1980 assists for her career, just 20 shy of 2,000. Short would become the sixth player in Tech history to reach such a milestone.

One major key to the Techsters' success this season has been a consistent presence at the net. In Tech's three wins in 2017, they have outblocked their opponents in all of them. In matches where they get outblocked, Tech is 0-3.

Following Tuesday's contest, Tech will rest up before heading back out on the road to St. Louis, Missouri, facing off against Little Rock, DePaul and the host Billikens in the final non-conference tournament of the season.
