LA Tech Travels to Take on Florida Atlantic on Friday in Boca

Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Louisiana Tech will hit the road on a short week to take on the reigning Conference USA champions as the Bulldogs travel to face Florida Atlantic on Friday evening in Boca Raton, Florida.

The game is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. CT at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton and will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network with Jason Horowitz (play-by-play) and Danny Kanell (analysis) calling all the action on Friday night.

Louisiana Tech enters Friday's game with a 5-2 overall record and 3-1 mark in league play. The Bulldogs head into the conference matchup having won four straight C-USA road games dating back to the 2017 season. LA Tech is 3-1 on the road so far in 2018. Last week, Holtz and the Bulldogs defeated the UTEP Miners, 31-24, on Homecoming. Tech enters the weekend having won two straight with wins over UTSA and UTEP.

Florida Atlantic has posted a 3-4 overall record on the season with a 1-2 record in C-USA games. The Owls are coming off a 31-7 loss at Marshall last week. FAU has notched wins over Air Force, Bethune-Cookman and Old Dominion this season. The Owls are led by second-year head coach Lane Kiffin, who has posted a 14-7 record since taking over at FAU in 2017.

"FAU is a football team that is 3-0 at home and they have won 10 in a row at home going back a couple years," head coach Skip Holtz said. "They have a confidence and an air about them at home that has been completely different than what we have seen on the road. We know we are going to face a talented team playing with a lot of confidence and we have to go to their place on a Friday night on a short week. This is one of the more talented teams in our league. They have more all conference players and preseason picks than any other team in our league. They won the conference last year and ran away with it last year. They are an explosive football team. There is a reason they won it all."

The Bulldogs and Owls have only one previous time in the all-time series with Florida Atlantic holding the advantage after a 48-23 win in Ruston last season.

Louisiana Tech is eyeing bowl eligibility for the fifth straight season when the Bulldogs take on Florida Atlantic on Friday night in search of win No. 6 on the year.

PREGAME NOTES

  • While Louisiana Tech may be facing a shorter work week with the upcoming game at Florida Atlantic scheduled for Friday night in Boca Raton, it is nothing new for the Bulldogs. Since 2013, LA Tech has played a total of nine non-Saturday games with the Bulldogs posting a 6-3 record in those contests, including two road wins and three bowl wins.

  • LA Tech defensive end Jaylon Ferguson is in the midst of a historic senior season as he enters Friday's game just one sack shy of tying the school record for career sacks, which is currently held by Walter Johnson with 38 sacks from 1983-86. Ferguson leads the country with 9.5 sacks this season and he is also the nation's active leader in career sacks (37.0). Ferguson needs just half a sack to tie the Conference USA record.

  • Louisiana Tech is currently one of only seven teams in the nation to put up perfect numbers in the red zone through the first eight weeks of the season. The Bulldogs enter Friday's C-USA road game at Florida Atlantic a perfect 24-for-24 inside the 20-yard line. In seven games, LA Tech has 17 touchdowns (9 rushing, 8 passing) and seven field goals for a total of 139 points put on the board in the red zone thus far.

  • Through seven games played in 2018, the Bulldog pass defense has yet to allow a 300-yard passer by an opponent, while also holding opposing quarterbacks to under 200 passing yards three times this season (91, South Alabama; 191, #6 LSU; 136, UAB).
