Charlotte Downs LA Tech in Three Sets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Louisiana Tech volleyball team wrapped up its 2018 Conference USA road schedule with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-20) defeat to the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday afternoon from Halton Arena.

Junior Kaitlyn Adams continued her strong work on the offensive end, once again leading the Lady Techsters (6-20, 1-10 C-USA) in kills, as she struck for 14 on the afternoon. Fellow junior Madeline Davis continued her efficient offensive season, leading the team with a .357 hitting percentage on seven kills (7-2-14).

Fellow freshman setters Abigail Hildenbrand and Mia Prostran each tallied 18 assists, while Natalie Honore (13 digs), Carter Mirich (10 digs) and Alyssa Zucco (10 digs) all notched double-digit dig efforts on the afternoon.

Charlotte (15-12, 5-6 C-USA) narrowly out-killed LA Tech, 46-42, but the hosts were more efficient on the afternoon, committing just 11 attack errors as opposed to Tech's 20.

In the first set, Charlotte took an early 8-2 lead and did not trail through the entirety of the frame. The 49ers hit at a .375 clip (18-3-40) and held Tech to a .205 mark (12-4-39). Midway through the set, the Techsters put together a 4-0 run, propelling them to within two at 15-13. However, the 49ers took eight of the final 11 points, staking a 25-18 victory.

The second set saw a much more back-and-forth affair early on, as neither team led by more than one through the first 15 combined points. With Charlotte owning a 19-17 lead, the 49ers pieced together a 3-0 run (the largest by any team in the second set) and took a 21-17 lead. Tech was unable to claw back, and dropped the tight frame by four, 25-21.

In the third, the Lady Techsters held Charlotte to its lowest hitting percentage of the afternoon at .224, but mustered just a .125 attacking clip themselves, as Charlotte did not trail for the entirety of the frame, taking a 25-20 triumph, and completing the sweep.

With its C-USA road schedule now complete, Tech will wrap up the 2018 regular season with three more conference home matches – the first happening next Friday, as Tech will host UTSA at 7 p.m. from the Thomas Assembly Center. Admission is free to all LA Tech home matches.
