LA Tech Looks to Bounce Back against Delaware

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on Monday night

RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech men's basketball team will play its third true road game of the season and its second game in the Delaware Invitational on Monday night when they take on the host Blue Hens at 6 p.m. CT inside the Bob Carpenter Center.

The matchup will be streamed live on Delaware's official YouTube channel.  Fans can also listen to Connor Giblin call the action through the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston), KJVC 92.7 FM (Mansfield) and KRMD 100.7 FM/1340 AM (Shreveport) as well as on the Louisiana Tech X mobile app.

A year after setting a program record for made three-pointers in a single season, LA Tech (4-2) has gotten off to a cold start from beyond the arc.  Their inability to make threes was too much to overcome on Saturday in their 80-73 loss to UNC Greensboro.

The Bulldogs shot just 5-of-23 from beyond the arc.  As a team through six games, they are shooting 30 percent from deep.  The two bright spots in that category so far are the sophomore duo of Exavian Christon and Anthony Duruji who are a combined 19-for-46 with both shooting over 40 percent.

Both players were the leading scorers against the Spartans as Christon posted a team-high 15 points while Duruji followed with 14.  Christon has been the most consistent scorer for LA Tech, posting double-digit points in five of six games and is averaging 16.7 points per game over the last three contests.

The Hot Springs native is averaging a team-best 13.3 points per game while shooting 52 percent from the field.  Duruji is averaging 12.7 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the field.

The team currently has seven players who are averaging at least seven points per game.  In five of the six games, there has been at least four Bulldogs to score in double figures.

Something LA Tech was able to do against UNCG was taken care of the basketball, only turning the ball over eight times which was a season low.  However, for the first time this year they were outrebounded by their opponent.  Despite that, the 'Dogs are still holding a +9.3 rebounding margin and are averaging 14 offensive rebounds per game while their opponents are only averaging eight.

The next opponent Delaware (4-2) is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) under third-year head coach Martin Ingelsby who has improved the team's win total in each of his first two years.

The Blue Hens lost the season opener at Maryland by only six points, then reeled off four straight victories over Saint Peter's, Chestnut Hill College, Cornell and Wilmington.  UD recently suffered an 84-65 loss to UNC Greensboro on its home floor this past Friday.

Delaware is anchored by Eric Carter who is averaging a team-best 17.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game this season.  The senior forward, who is a CAA Preseason Honorable Mention honoree, is shooting a whopping 66 percent from the field.  He scored 29 points in the season opener against the Terrapins.

This will be the first meeting on the hardwood between LA Tech and Delaware.  It will be the Bulldogs second opponent this season that they play for the very first time (the other was Wichita State).
