Lady Techsters will face Missouri State and UMKC at the Roo Holiday Classic
KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Louisiana Tech and Missouri State will square off Thursday when the two programs meet in the first day of the Rook Holiday Classic hosted by UMKC at Swinney Recreation Center.
Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. It's the first of two games in two days for the Lady Techsters (7-3) who will face the host Kangaroos (4-4) Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Fans can tune into both contests on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM (Ruston) and KJVC 92.7 FM with the pregame show starting 30 minutes before tipoff.
Fans can also access a free audio stream though the Louisiana Tech X mobile app. There will be no video stream for Thursday's game but Friday's match-up against UMKC will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.
The game will be a rematch of last year's first round WNIT match-up, a contest Missouri State won 63-59 in Ruston. Â The Lady Bears lead the all-time series 3-1, including three straight victories over LA Tech.
"Missouri State has a played a very difficult schedule," said LA Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "I don't want to say they are the best one win team in the country but they really are. They have a lot of young players who have gained a lot of experience during their non-conference schedule and who are playing very well.
"They are a historic program that is well-coached. Our players know them from our match-up in last year's WNIT and know they will come to compete. It will be a very tough game, and we will have to play well as a group to have success."
Missouri State (1-7) has lost five games by four points or less, including losses to Wichita State (63-60, OT), #16 Missouri (65-61), Santa Clara (77-73), North Texas (83-76, OT) and #21 Gonzaga (70-67). Danielle Gitzen, the team's lone senior, leads the Lady Bears in scoring (11.5 ppg) while Alexa Willard (10.5 ppg) and Brice Calip (10.0 ppg) are also averaging double figures.
Tech (7-3) has won three straight games, including victories over Alabama and Ole Miss. Reigning Conference USA Player of the Week Kierra Anthony continues to pace the Lady Techsters, ranking No. 1 in the league and No. 7 in the country in scoring at 23.1 points per game. Anthony's 231 points through the first 10 games of the season are the most by a Lady Techsters since Sheila Ethridge scored 239 in the first 10 games of the 1990-91 season.
LA Tech and Missouri State (formerly SW Missouri State) are the last two non-P5 programs to advance to an NCAA Division I Final Four. LA Tech played in the 1999 Final Four while Missouri State competed in the 2001 Final Four.
