Lady Techsters, Cowgirls meet for 28th time
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Since returning from the Christmas break, Louisiana Tech has focused on the defensive end of the floor in practice leading into Saturday's 1 p.m. showdown against McNeese State at the H&HP Complex.
Head coach Brooke Stoehr and Co. will face the Cowgirls (2-8) for the 28th time in the series history with the Lady Techsters leading 20-7, including a 5-4 mark in Lake Charles. Tech won last year's meeting in Ruston 78-62 and two straight in the series.
Saturday's contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and KJVC 92.7 FM with the pregame show starting at 12:30 p.m. Fans can also access the audio through the Louisiana Tech X mobile app. A live video stream of the game can be seen through a paid subscription to Cowboy Insider at McNeeseSports.com.
Tech enters the game on a two-game skid after falling in back-to-back outings to Missouri State and UMKC prior to the Christmas break. Stoehr pinpointed the Lady Techsters lack of defense as the main factor in both losses as Tech allowed 80-plus points in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Offensively, Tech continues to be led by senior guard Kierra Anthony. The New Iberia, La., native ranks No. 1 in Conference USA and No. 3 nationally in scoring, averaging 24.7 points per game, including 33.3 points per game over the past three contests. Anthony has scored 25 or more points in five straight games (25, 25, 35, 27, 38).
McNeese State dropped its first eight games of the season before recording back-to-back wins over Southern-New Orleans (106-54) and Louisiana College (86-68). Two of McNeese State's losses have come to Conference USA opponents, falling to UAB (91-48) and Rice (93-65) on the road.
Tech and McNeese State have one common opponent in LSU-Alexandria. Tech defeated LSU-A 112-70 while McNeese State lost to the Generals 68-60.
Callie Maddox (14.0 ppg), Regan Bolton (10.4 ppg) and Bre'Ashlee Jones (10.3 ppg) lead the Cowgirls offensively. Defensively, McNeese State is allowing 77.0 points per game.
