NACOGDOCHES, Texas ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Playing on the road for the second straight day, the Louisiana Tech women's tennis team was able to put an end to its three-game losing skid by grinding out a 4-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday afternoon at the Schlief Tennis Complex.

The doubles point proved crucial for LA Tech (6-7) since the singles lineup was split against SFA (1-14). It ended up being the top three positions in singles that came through for the Lady Techsters with Karla De La Luz Montalvo, Nadja Manjon and Sonia Chen delivering the points.

Down 3-2 in the match, Montalvo evened things up with a three-set victory for her second dual win at the No. 1 position. Then it was Chen who came back from a set down to win in three, extending her streak to eight while clinching it for LA Tech.

Doubles was dominant to start things off. The duo of Manjon and Angela Lorenzo breezed through their match at the No. 2 position, not dropping a single game to win 6-0 versus Sian Payne and Armelle Cerdan.

Not long after, the tandem of Chen and Claudia Oravcova came through with a 6-2 victory on court three over Darinka Tiboldi and Kaja Ljubic to give the Lady Techsters the early 1-0 advantage. The pair improved their record to 7-2 on the spring.

Manjon was equally as dominant in singles. The sophomore picked up her eighth dual victory by overpowering Payne by a final score of 6-4, 6-1.

SFA countered though as the Lady Jacks countered with three straight wins by Cerdan, Ljubic and Nida Kamal on courts four, five and six, respectively, to take its first lead in the match at 3-2.

The final two matches were in a third set. At No. 1, Montalvo took the first set 6-3 while SFA's Gabi Guilarte took the second 6-2. Montalvo quickly got the upper-hand in the third and final set, storming out to a 5-0 lead with one game away from winning the match before her opponent retired.

With the match now knotted up at 3-all, the deciding point was on court three between Chen and Tiboldi. SFA jumped out, winning the first set 6-3. Chen then found her groove, winning the second and third set 6-1 apiece.

LA Tech returns home to face in-state foe Northwestern State on Tuesday, March 27. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
