RUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" With the welcoming blue skies and sunshine, the Louisiana Tech women's tennis team held serve at home by defeating Arkansas State by a final score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.

LA Tech (7-7) picked up the doubles point to start things off. And despite A-State (4-12) opening up singles leading on five of the six courts early, the Lady Techsters regained the momentum by taking victories on courts two, four, five and six.

"The important thing is that we bring aggressiveness, fight and fire to every match consistently," head coach Amanda Stone said. "We asked the team after doubles to make adjustments. Arkansas State can hit good shots and I think we adjusted well. I'm proud of how we are maturing on the courts and I think that is coming out of practice. We are really growing as a team."

The first win of the day came via Sonia Chen and Claudia Oravcova at the No. 3 spot, going up 2-1 at the second cross over and then reeling off four straight games to win 6-1 over Allison Quammen and Sabina Jesevic. The duo improved their team-leading record to 8-2 this spring.

The Red Wolves evened things up with a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position, bringing the opening point down to court two pitting Nadja Manjon and Angela Lorenzo versus Shannon O'Brien and Shelby King.

Tied up at 4-4, Manjon delivered monster serves to deny the A-State break and go up 5-4. The duo then clinched it behind the craftiness of Lorenzo at net to take it 6-4.

A-State jumped out strong in singles, including going up by scores of 3-0 and 4-1 on courts three and four, respectively.

Manjon was another player down early, but the sophomore took control of her match on court two to defeat Anita Detlava by a score of 6-3, 6-3, giving LA Tech a 2-0 advantage. It marked her third straight victory, improving to 9-4 on the spring.

Almost at the same time on the far court six, Andrea Perez-Lopez overcame some serving issues to take frustrate her opponent Quammen which resulted in a 7-5, 6-1 win and the third point of the day for the Lady Techsters.

The next court to finish was at the No. 1 spot where King provided the Red Wolves their first point of the match with a straight-sets win.

It appeared as though Berta Masdevall Masip was going to provide a second point for A-State on court four. She was in command of the match against Chen, up 4-1. However, the junior made adjustments and ended up winning the first set in a tiebreaker and then cruising 6-2 in the second set to clinch the match for a second straight time.

For Chen, it marked her ninth straight singles victory. It was also team-leading win No. 10 on the season and win No. 30 of her career.

An insurance point for the Techsters came in the final match on court at No. 5 where Lorenzo outlasted O'Brien 6-2, 7-6.

LA Tech returns to action on Monday, April 2 when they host in-state foe Northwestern State. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
