LA Tech season stats
BOCA RATON, Fla. ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis team picked up a couple of points from the bottom of the singles lineup, but that was as much as the Lady Techsters could get as they dropped a 5-2 decision to conference foe Florida Atlantic on Saturday morning at the FAU Tennis Complex.
LA Tech (2-4) got close victories from junior Sonia Chen and freshman Claudia Oravcova at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. FAU (5-4) though was able to grab the doubles point and takes the wins on courts one through four in singles.
The Owls got off to a 1-0 start in the match with 6-1 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots in doubles. Then their third-ranked singles player in the country, Aliona Bolsova, remained perfect on the season with a straight-sets win on court one.
FAU later clinched the home victory with straight-set victories on courts two and three as well.
Playing out the matches, freshman Karla De La Luz Montalvo suffered a close 6-4, 6-4 loss at the No. 4 position to Kristen Thoms.
The Lady Techsters got on the scoreboard after that though thanks to Oravcova who claimed her first dual singles win of her career by outlasting Jennifer Leib in a third-set super breaker 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (6).
The last match on the courts was at the No. 5 position between Chen and Marisa Ruiz. Chen won the first set in a tiebreaker and pulled out the second set as well, winning 7-6, 6-3 for her third dual singles victory of the spring.
LA Tech returns to action on Monday, March 5 when they take on Stetson at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. First serve is set for 9 a.m. CT.
