FRISCO, Texas -- Louisiana Tech left everything they had on Court A late Thursday night. And then some.

The game came down to the very end, but the Bulldogs were not able to pull off their second upset of the tournament, falling 62-58 to Old Dominion in the C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals at The Star.

No. 10 seed LA Tech (17-16) was determined not to let No. 2 seed ODU (25-6) do what they did to them in Ruston a month ago -- that was when the Monarchs had as much as a 25-point lead and ended up putting 82 on the scoreboard with a 13-point victory to boot.

The first two things did not happen. And the third was close to not happening.

After six ties and 10 lead changes, the `Dogs had a chance to tie it up for a seventh time with just seconds on the clock, but the contested layup by Derric Jean rolled around the rim ... and then off the rim.

What followed was two more free throws by Old Dominion (Nos. 15 and 16 out of 18 attempts while LA Tech attempted five all night at the line) to ice it.

"I was really proud of the way our guys battled tonight," head coach Eric Konkol said during the post-game press conference. "We knew we were going to play a team with great size and had a great regular season and we knew were going to have to rebound and defend really well. The guys executed the game plan.

"We were close. If the ball bounces a couple of different ways, we're feeling a whole lot differently. Give Old Dominion a lot of credit for the way they executed all game long and especially down the stretch. I'm really proud of this group for the way they played today and hung in together, really all season long with all the adversity that we battled."

With a minimal 12-10 edge eight minutes into the contest, the Bulldogs dominated for a small stretch to the tune of a 7-0 run complements of an Oliver Powell slam, an Exavian Christon three-pointer and an offensive putback by JaColby Pemberton.

It was the `Dogs largest lead of the game and unfortunately they made just 2 of their next 11 field goals in the first half which allowed the Monarchs to take a slim 25-24 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Eight-plus minutes deep into the second half, it was ODU who took its largest lead of the game after a B.J. Stith jumper made it 41-33.

Then came another run for LA Tech -- a 12-2 run to be exact -- that was capped off by back-to-back triples from Anthony Duruji and Jacobi Boykins to give the lead back to the Bulldogs at 45-43 with 7:40 to play, a sequence that forced a Monarchs timeout.

ODU extended its lead back up to five at the final media TO with 3:58 left to play. Three-pointers by Boykins and Jean (the latter which made No. 10 for the game and a single season program record No. 287) eventually trimmed the deficit down to one.

A made free throw by Powell tied it up at 58-all with 1:57 on the clock. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs missed their final four shot attempts while the Monarchs got just enough offense to escape into the semifinals.

Despite being undersized, LA Tech was only outrebounded by three (36-33) and almost had just as many paint points (24-22). They ended up shooting 23-of-61 from the field (38 percent) and 10-of-33 from beyond the arc (30 percent).

Leading the charge was Jean who had a team-high 14 points to go along with five boards and four assists with zero turnovers. Boykins was the other Bulldog in double figures with 10, including three triples which gave him 98 for the season and a whopping 269 for his incredible four-year career.

Old Dominion was limited to 41 percent shooting (20-49) and 32 percent from three (6-19). Stith did the most damage with his double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Center Trey Porter added 18.
