Posthauer Delivers Late Game-Winner

LA Tech improves to 9-3-0 on the season and 2-1-0 in C-USA play

RUSTON – It was another wild finish at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex this weekend.

After WKU tied the match up late in the match, sophomore Amber Posthauer subbed in and later delivered the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining to help give Louisiana Tech a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.

LA Tech (9-3-0, 2-1-0 C-USA) got on the scoreboard first with a goal by junior Jaelyn Peeples in the second half.  WKU (2-5-2, 0-2-0 C-USA) would later equalize with less than seven minutes remaining.

With the rain pouring down, Posthauer was able to drill her one-touch shot which provided another three points for the Lady Techsters.

"If you take care of your home games, you have a great chance at qualifying for the tournament," head coach Kevin Sherry said.  "You can't afford to slip up when you are playing at home.  You have to fight it out and that is what we did today.

"The last 10 minutes our team was tired, mentally and physically.  It was an onslaught from WKU, but somehow Amber goes on with a bit of energy.  It was a great layoff and a great finish."

LA Tech was pressing high early and had a couple of good scoring chances.  Senior Mylene Roy-Ouellet had a shot from 10 yards out that was saved and junior Kaylee Zetter had a breakaway but was not able to beat the keeper on the 1v1 as the shot was punched over the crossbar.

The Lady Toppers would take control of the match for the majority of the first half though, holding much of the possession, but the match went into halftime scoreless.

Then in the 61st minute, Peeples struck for her second goal of the weekend.  Junior Alexandra LeBlanc drilled a low corner kick into the box that got deflected out.  Junior Stella Li took control of the ball and played it back to Peeples who drilled her shot from 30 yards out into the right corner.

Playing more defensive to hold the one-goal advantage, the Lady Toppers were pushing forward and had three straight corner kicks that were fought off by the Lady Techsters.

However, their constant attack paid off in the 84th minute when a LA Tech player tried to clear the ball out of the 18 but Nicole Roseland controlled it and sent her shot that deflected and crept inside the far post to tie the match up.

That was the moment Posthauer subbed in and she capitalized four minutes later.  Senior Nomvula Kgoale would get the ball and fire it to Roy-Ouellet at the top of the 18.  The striker delivered a chest pass to Posthauer who then fired her shot from 25 yards out that snuck in under the crossbar.

It marked the first time in four tries this season that the Lady Techsters were able to win a day game.  They were 0-3 in such matches coming into Sunday.

LA Tech held a 14-10 shot advantage in the match, led by Roy-Ouellet who had four attempts.  Eight of those 14 came on goal.

In net was Carlotta Cartelli who picked up her sixth win of the season, recording five saves in the process (four of those came in the second half).

LA Tech will head back on the road next weekend, traveling to the Sunshine State where they will take on Florida Atlantic on Friday, Sept. 28.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
