RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech tennis team will get its 2019 spring season underway this weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take part in the Hurricane Invite on Jan. 12-13 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

LA Tech, led by third-year head coach
Amanda Stone, will face off against the host school Tulsa, beginning on Saturday at 9 a.m. After lunch, the Lady Techsters will then take on Wyoming at approximately 1:30 p.m. (singles only).Â

The team returns to the courts on Sunday morning where they play finish the dual match with the Cowgirls by playing doubles starting at 8:30 a.m. The invitational wraps on against Oral Roberts in a match that will begin at 9:30 a.m.

LA Tech, who battled numerous injuries in the fall, will be at near full strength with
Sonia Chen,
Nadja Manjon,
Ana Jover,
Leonie Nutz,
Claudia Oravcova and
Andrea Perez-Lopez making the trip.Â

The team is anchored by the lone senior Chen who has compiled a 63-30 overall singles record (33-20 in duals only). She needs only six more dual singles victories to crack the top 10 for career match wins.

There is also fellow upperclassmen Manjon. The junior has totaled 32 singles wins during her first two seasons as a Lady Techster.Â

Sophomores Perez-Lopez and Oravcova are back for their second spring seasons while Nutz and Jover will be seeing their first career dual action at LA Tech.Â

Arguably the toughest opponent this weekend for the Lady Techsters will be the host school Tulsa who is ranked No. 22 in the country in the first edition of the Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis team rankings.

The Golden Hurricane is coming off a season where the team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.

Wyoming finished last spring with a 12-8 overall mark while Oral Roberts had a 10-15 overall record.Â
