LA Tech Wraps Up Road Swing at Charlotte

Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT on Saturday

RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech men's basketball team wraps up its two-game road swing on Saturday afternoon when they take on Charlotte in game No. 20 of the season at 3 p.m. CT inside Halton Arena.

The game will be streamed live on CUSA.tv (subscription required).  Fans can also listen to the Voice of the Bulldogs Dave Nitz call the game through the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston), KJVC 92.7 FM (Mansfield) and KRMD 100.7 FM/1340 AM (Shreveport) as well as on the Louisiana Tech X mobile app.

It was another close loss on the road for LA Tech (13-6, 3-3 C-USA).  On Thursday night at Old Dominion, the Bulldogs were in a back-and-forth battle all the way to the end but would up suffering a 64-63 loss to the Monarchs.

The 'Dogs dropped to 0-3 in league road games this season and have lost seven straight dating back to last season with three of those coming by one possession.

LA Tech did plenty enough on the defensive end to win the game, outrebounding one of the best rebounding teams in the country 40-31, while also holding the Monarchs to under one point per possession.

Fir the sixth time in the last seven games, they held their opponent to under 70 points in limiting the Monarchs to just 64.  Through six league games, they continue the lead the league in scoring defense (conference games only), giving up only 61.7 points per game.

Offensively, Amorie Archibald (16), Anthony Duruji (16) and DaQuan Bracey (14) combined for 46 of the team's 63 points.  Along with JaColby Pemberton, those four starters are averaging at least 10 points per game and have registered at least 10 double-digit scoring games each this season.

Along with balanced scoring, there has been balanced rebounding as five players are currently averaging at least four boards per game.

Charlotte (4-12, 1-4 C-USA) enters Saturday in a three-way tie for 12th place in the league standings.  Three of the four conference losses have been by three points or less, including their most recent game on Thursday night when Southern Miss hit a game-winning three in the closing seconds to hand the 49ers a 63-60 defeat.

Charlotte, led by first-year head coach Ron Sanchez, does a couple of things really well.  They play without fouling, ranking 21st in the country in fewest fouls committed per game.  They also are stellar from the foul line, leading C-USA in free throw shooting percentage at 75.8.

Jon Davis makes the 49ers go.  The preseason All-Conference USA selection is averaging a league-best 21.6 points per game which ranks 20th in the nation.  He has over 1,800 career points and 500 career assist.

LA Tech and Charlotte will meet for the seventh time, a series that did not start until the two became league foes in C-USA in 2013-14.  The Bulldogs have never lost the 49ers, holding a 6-0 advantage.
