Lady Techsters look to bounce back from triple OT loss Thursday
BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky – Following an emotionally, physically draining triple overtime loss at Marshall on Thursday night, Louisiana Tech will attempt to bounce back when the Lady Techsters face WKU Saturday at 2 p.m. at E.A. Diddle Arena.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and KJVC 92.7 FM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. Fans can also access a live video stream through ESPN3.
Tech (10-10, 2-5 C-USA) played 55 minutes of basketball on Thursday before dropping the 90-88 decision to the Thundering Herd. It was a game that the Lady Techsters gave themselves multiple opportunities to win before coming up short.
WKU (11-9, 5-1 C-USA) is also coming off a loss – its first in league play – falling 69-56 to Southern Miss Thursday night at home. It snapped the Lady Toppers 22-game home winning streak that dated back almost three full calendar years.
"This is one that is going to eat at us for a while," said LA Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr, following Thursday's loss, "but it can't because we have a quick turnaround. We have to go to Western who is one of the best teams in the league."
After a brutally tough non-conference schedule that saw WKU loss games to the likes of Louisville, Iowa, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Gonzaga and Notre Dame, the Lady Toppers started league play with five straight victories before the loss to USM.
WKU sits just five wins shy of becoming only the 10th program in women's basketball history to reach 1,000 wins. Nineteen of those victories have come against LA Tech although the Lady Techsters lead the all-time series 26-19. WKU has won all six meetings since the two teams joined Conference USA, including last year's 74-64 win in Ruston.
This year's Lady Toppers boast one of the top offensive teams in C-USA. WKU ranks No. 2 in field goal percentage (.456), No. 2 in scoring (76.7) and No. 1 in three-point field goal percentage (.374) led by four double digit scorers: Dee Givens (18.6 ppg), Raneem Elgedawy (16.3 ppg), Alexis Brewer (11.3 ppg) and Meral Abdelgawad (10. 1ppg).
LA Tech has seen recent offensive contributions from other players not named Kierra Anthony (23.7 ppg, 5 30-plus point performances). Sophomore guard Amber Dixon has averaged 14.2 points with four double digit scoring games in the last five contests while Raizel Guinto scored 14 points in the loss at Marshall. Freshman Bri Harris has also started to show some offensive abilities, averaging 8.0 points over the past two games.
