RUSTON, La. - For their performances this past weekend, Louisiana Tech junior cornerback
Amik Robertson and senior kicker
Bailey Hale were recognized by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association as two of the top performers around the state of Louisiana.
Robertson earned his second award of the season, as he was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Hale was recognized as the state's Special Teams Player of the Week.
Robertson propelled the Bulldog defense to one of its best performances of the season in Tech's 69-21 victory over UMass on Saturday evening. Robertson, the C-USA leader in passes defended, came up with a pick six on just the fourth play of the game, taking it 42 yards to the house, giving Tech an early 7-0 lead. Both of Robertson's two interceptions this season have been taken back for touchdowns.
His 11th career interception moved him into a tie for 7th most in program history. Robertson also added four tackles (1 TFL). His 11 passes defended this season are tied for 4th most among national leaders.
Hale continued his streak of perfection in LA Tech's 69-21 blowout win over UMass on Saturday evening. He connected on both of his field goal attempts - extending his streak to 10 straight makes on the season (10-for-12 on the year). Hale racked up 15 points on the evening, adding nine made PATs. It was the second time this season he has amassed 15+ points in a single game.
Hale leads all Conference USA in scoring with 54 points (an average of 9.0 per game). He is the only C-USA kicker with 10 made field goals so far this season. His 1.67 field goals made per game average is ties for 18th most among national leaders.
