Lady Techsters averaging 84.5 points over last four games
RUSTON, La. – After struggling to score early in the Conference USA season, Louisiana Tech has found its offensive rhythm over the past two weeks and hopes to continue the trend when the Lady Techsters host FIU Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech (11-11, 3-6 C-USA) has averaged 84.5 points per game over the last four contests, almost 30 points more than it averaged during the first five league games (55.0 ppg). During the stretch, Tech is shooting over 45 percent from the field and over 40 percent from the three-point line while scoring 86 points or more in three of the four games.
"We are sharing the basketball and more players are stepping up for us," said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr, who saw her team defeat Florida Atlantic 86-55 Thursday night. "Kierra (Anthony) isn't have to carry the entire load. Teams have guarded us a lot of different ways and bottom line is more players have come through for us the last few weeks."
Although Anthony (23.2 ppg) is the lone Lady Techster averaging double figures this year, Tech has seen Taylor Stahly (3 times), Grayson Bright and Amber Dixon all record 20-point performances in C-USA play while Raizel Guinto has a 19-point effort to her name.
FIU (3-18, 0-8 C-USA) is still looking for its first league win of the season. The Panthers have dropped 10 straight games since defeating Alcorn State 75-40 on Dec. 20 and have been outscored by an average of 18.5 points in its eight C-USA losses.
"They have a big inside that can do some damage," said Stoehr. "If we play behind her and she gets touches in the paint she will get to the free throw line and score some easy baskets. They have a couple of guards that can score it and we have to do a great job of containing dribble penetration, handling their ball screens, keeping them off the free throw line and off the offensive glass."
FIU has shown the ability to play tough with some of the top teams in C-USA, falling 49-43 to Middle Tennessee (FIU led with under three minutes to play) and 94-82 to WKU.
Tech leads the all-time series against FIU 11-1, although the Panthers defeated the Lady Techsters 57-54 in Miami last season.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and KJVC 92.7 FM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. Fans can also watch a live video feed through a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.
